Mangrove Reef Wall Origins Aquarium studies were used to study textured seawalls and their benefits. Selected species were introduced to panels with a variety of habitat relief across the samples. The goal was to create a seawall that would offer habitat to many species and support ecosystem functions. The study indicated that most species benefitted from more complex areas of refuge - marine organisms at a range of stages of development could utilize more complex habitat features (deeper relief and variety of shapes).
